CASS GREEN MOUNTS CHALLENGE FOR PA HOUSE IN THE 10TH DISTRICT

Champion for working families, youth and the West Philly community and neighbors across the Schuylkill Cass Green announced today that she will run for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 10th House District, comprising Mantua, Powelton Village, and parts of University City and Logan Square.

“The 10th District is an intergenerational and multicultural district experiencing transformation. It’s our elected officials’ responsibility to ensure the existing residents and children benefit and build and create a better today, tomorrow and future for generations to come,” said Green. “Our community deserves the right to build on its current assets while cultivating its potential. Our leaders must prioritize correcting unconstitutional education disparities, supporting criminal justice reform, assisting small businesses, encouraging the arts and innovation, and promoting a vision of folks blossoming where they are planted, and experiencing abundance, not scarcity. Our people deserve solutions to poverty, mental health crises, and crime that don’t relegate their futures to prison.”

Green continued: “Our community has grown up in the shadow of some of the most world class and resource-rich institutions, it’s more than time for that prosperity to be shared with all.”

As a working mother of two and fixture of the West Philly community, Cass Green supports raising wages of all working people, ensuring that our public schools and social services are fully and fairly funded, supporting our returning citizens, and making our neighborhoods safer through data-driven criminal justice policy, and common sense gun safety policy. Until this week, Green worked serving the community on projects ranging from the juvenile diversion unit to the first of its kind Data Lab for District Attorney Larry Krasner.

Green is challenging Rep. Amen Brown who has represented this district since 2022, who, before receiving just 1.4% of the vote in his failed mayoral run, authored a mandatory minimum bill that the Pennsylvania ACLU called “the worst criminal justice bill that we’ve seen.” After being the only Democrat in the state House to vote for sending local tax money to unaccountable for-profit schools, Brown received six-figure support from those tied to private schools and major developers who cause gentrification in West Philly.

Green continued: “The residents of the tenth district are ready to embrace change that will come with more investment in its public schools and in affordable accessible convenient housing options, rather than being displaced out of their community to turn a profit for already wealthy developers. They especially deserve representation with a track record of meeting people where they are, not using them as a stepping stone or a prop for self-promotion.”

Cass Green will kick off her campaign at an in-person event on Friday, January 26th from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM at St. Ignatius Nursing Home & Rehab, 4401 Haverford Ave. This event is focused on the community and sharing our movement’s vision for the 10th district and all of its endless possibilities.
