CASS GREEN ANNOUNCES MAJOR LABOR ENDORSEMENTS
SEIU Pennsylvania State Council, SEIU 32BJ, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, Unite HERE 274 proclaim Green ‘champion for working people.’
Philadelphia, PA (March 13, 2024) – Today, Cass Green, Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania state Representative in the 10th District received the endorsements of four major labor unions representing over 100,000 workers across the Commonwealth. The endorsements of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Pennsylvania State Council, SEIU Local 32BJ, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, and Unite HERE 274 represent the most significant endorsements of any candidate in the race so far.
“For years, pro-labor legislators have been playing defense to protect the needs of working people in Pennsylvania,” said Gabe Morgan, President of the SEIU Pennsylvania State Council, a union that represents over 80,000 workers across Pennsylvania. “But now that we have a pro-worker majority, we need partners like Cass Green, who will go on offense to ensure fair wages and dignity for all workers.”
“We are proud to support a candidate in Cass Green who truly supports our public schools and who will fight relentlessly in Harrisburg to ensure schools in Philadelphia have the resources they need to thrive. Our students need and deserve to have the resources that are taken for granted in wealthier, whiter school districts. I trust Cass Green to fight for just that." said Jerry T. Jordan, President of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. “We need elected officials who won’t give away tax dollars to wealthy families to send their kids to for-profit private schools like the incumbent has, and Cass Green is the antidote to that backwards way of thinking.”
Daisy Cruz, Mid-Atlantic District Director for SEIU Local 32BJ, the union representing 2,000 School District of Philadelphia bus drivers, cleaners, and trades workers, echoed, “Cass Green understands that the working conditions of our bus drivers, janitors, and engineers are the learning conditions for our students. The people who make our schools work trust Cass Green to have their back in Harrisburg.”
“Working people need more champions in the Pennsylvania House, not those who will sell them out to the highest campaign contributors,” said Emiliano Rodriguez, Political Director for UNITE HERE Local 274, which represents 4,000 food service and hotel workers at all three stadiums stadiums, hotels across the Philadelphia region and the Philadelphia International Airport. “Our members support Cass Green because she’s lived the struggles they face every day. We look forward to working with Cass Green to fight for a Commonwealth that supports working people first over the corporations and lobbyists who benefit all too often from decision making in Harrisburg.”
Cass Green, Democratic candidate for State Representative, responded, “I am incredibly grateful to have the endorsements of unions representing tens of thousands of working people like those who live and work in the 10th District. With a growing coalition of supporters across Philadelphia, I am confident that we will win on April 23rd and continue to bring about positive change for everyday Pennsylvanians.”
